ECTN is a mandatory digital certificate issued on the basis of the transportation documents and to be presented at the customs indicating shipper and consignee information, loading & discharge ports and dates and cargo details such as kind and quantity of the cargo, goods value, freight value, etc.
ECTN does inform the port authorities regarding the kind and quantity of the cargo, arrival date & port before the arrival of the vessel allowing the authorities to monitor the port traffic and prepare the necessary discharge equipment for the discharge operations.
The cargo will not be cleared at the customs without a valid ECTN certificate/number. Since cargo could not be cleared at customs until a valid CTN is presented, the demurrage fee will be in question in addition to a penalty fee at the customs.
